So first and foremost, before I get to the main point of this post, I sincerely wanna apologize. I did not intend to have such a long hiatus. In addition to all the nonsense 2020 threw at me, one of them ended up being a really horrible toothache I got about a month after my last entry. And if that wasn't bad enough, I didn't get said tooth extracted for two more weeks, so I was stuck in god-awful pain for way too long.
I'm not gonna fill in all of the blanks with excuses, because I'm intending to remedy my absence with this post. I'm also going to see about posting every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so keep your eyes open especially on those days. I may go to an every day posting status eventually, but for now, I'm starting off on a slow but steady pace.
Now then, going to the main topic, anyone who follows the anime and manga One Piece knows about the Akuma No Mi, or Devil Fruits. They come in three categories; Paramecia, which is the most commonly found type. There are also Zoan fruits, which tend to change and/or give people animalistic forms, or at least features. Finally, there are Logia fruits, which literally allow users to become an element. From ice to fire to magma and so much more.
With as many fruits as there are in the world of One Piece, it's easy to assume there are quite a few that have some very scary abilities.
So which ones made my own personal list? Read on to find out those answers as well as why I chose them over others. For anyone who isn't far in the anime/manga series, beware of spoiler alerts which may or may not be found in this list. You have been warned. Without anymore ado, here's my Top 10 Most Terrifying Devil Fruits.
#10: Doku Doku No Mi (Venom-Venom Fruit, used by Magellan): I would probably put this much higher up except for the fact it is only poison. Don't misunderstand me. I've read the chapters and seen the episodes. It absolutely does quite a bit of damage. But compared to the others I found and included here? I think it'll become more obvious why it's so low on this list. Still, poison is never fun to deal with in any setting, so I made sure to include the Doku Doku No Mi on this list.
#9: Yami Yami No Mi (Dark-Dark Fruit, used by Marshall D. Teach): Despite the powers that come with this fruit, it is also its own double-edged sword. It is literally shown in the series that the same darkness which absorbs powers simultaneously allows the user to still be hurt. With it having this disadvantage included with it, I couldn't put this higher. Still, for what it does offer for anyone who uses it, the Yami Yami No Mi is a force to be reckoned with, particularly if you're not careful when you fight Marshall Teach.
#8: Suna Suna No Mi (Sand-Sand Fruit, used by Crocodile): The first Logia fruit to make this list. For me, it isn't necessarily becoming the sand that's scary. It's being able to extract water from anyone you fight, as we've seen when Crocodile literally drained and dehydrated Luffy's entire right arm. He has also been seen outright killing guards from Impel Down by draining them with his Devil Fruit. The sand can be parted, which can allow Crocodile to dodge and avoid attacks. Like all of the fruits though, it has its own weakness aside from sea stone and ocean water.
In the case of Crocodile, its his sand becoming solid if he comes into contact with liquids, including blood. When this happens, his sand is unable to nullify damage.
#7: Suke Suke No Mi (Clear-Clear Fruit, formerly used by Absalom): The sole fact you can use this fruit on an undead/nonliving thing or person makes it terrifying in its own rights when you stop and think about it. It also doesn't seem to be limited to a definite number; just how many people/items the user touches. But if you go about using this wisely, you could literally create an invisible, decent sized group of soldiers or even worse with this fruit. Aside from the usual weaknesses, there are also tricks to finding/discovering invisible people/items, hence why it isn't quite higher up on this list.
#6: Zushi Zushi No Mi (Thump-Thump or Thud-Thud Fruit, used by Issho/Admiral Fujitora): The ability to manipulate and control gravity is, by itself, already nerve-wracking. Add in the fact it can grab anything as small as debris or as large as a meteor ... oof. I know I wouldn't want to be facing Fujitora. As if none of this was intimidating enough, the fact Fujitora is blind but can still use it with pretty good accuracy ... do I need to add much else?
#5: Pika Pika No Mi (Glint-Glint Fruit, used by Borsalino/Kizaru): With the Pika Pika No Mi, you can not just move at the speed of light, but also become and even control it. In his own ways, Kizaru can even teleport himself by reflecting his body to any desired location. The biggest weakness, aside from the usual suspects? You can only travel in straight lines.
#4: Hobi Hobi No Mi (Hobby-Hobby Fruit, used by Sugar): Not only does the Hobi Hobi turn people into dolls, it erases their memories entirely. Two things that already make me cringe just from the mere thought. Sugar used this Devil Fruit to a degree in the series where she was able to create a relatively large army courtesy of the Hobi Hobi No Mi. However, once you render the user unconscious through fear and/or pain, all of the transformation and memory modifications will be immediately cancelled.
#3: Ito Ito No Mi (String-String Fruit, used by Donquixote Doflamingo): Another fruit where a person can be manipulated. I'm sure you can notice a theme here with me. But on a serious note, this was higher up for me because you can apply it to more than just people, evidenced by Doflamingo's Torikago (Bird Cage) technique. The strings have been shown to be strong enough to cut through flesh, as seen when Little Oars Jr.'s right leg was cleanly removed in one swift motion. Furthermore, the strings are borderline impossible to see with the naked eye. They can even make inorganic matter become threads via his Awakening of this Fruit.
#2: Gura Gura No Mi (Tremor-Tremor or Quake-Quake Fruit, formerly used by Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate): This is considered to be the strongest Paramecia Fruit, and for a very good reason. The massive vibrations and shockwaves are not restricted to being aimed at the ground. You can target both sky and sea for these also, and the results are absolutely devastating. Just about any and every AMV on YouTube that has The Battle of Marineford shown can give a much more visual demonstration of everything I mean. Some of the few people who were able to weaken or completely stop this Fruit's ability were other Fruit users, such as Admiral Aokiji. Had he not been present, there very well may have been a lot more damage dealt to the landscape and even quite a few people present.
#1: Nagi Nagi No Mi (Calm-Calm Fruit, formerly used by Donquixote Rosinante): So why is this listed above the Gura Gura, you may be one wondering? Easy. The thought of anyone that is a sniper, stealthy, or even both and possessing this fruit? Scary. It could make for one of the most perfect assassination fruits. While this theory is not canon, I've wondered/thought that either Van Augur or Lafitte may eventually be given this fruit sometime in the future. Both would be dangerous choices, as both fall under the types of people I listed above (stealthy and/or snipers). Personally, though, I think Lafitte would be a bit worse, because he already doesn't make sounds when we walks. So if he had the Fruit and the ability to make a soundproof field? Yeah. I'll leave it at that.
And there you have it! My Top 10 Most Terrifying Devil Fruits!
Until next time,
Esyel
